Iris Disse

Iris Disse is the founder of “Durga's Tiger School for Tantra Yoga Arts & Shamanism” in Ecuador, where people from the USA, Canada and Europe come to do a certified yoga teacher training or spend a retreat. She is a radio, theater and film maker, author and composer for acoustic art.
Iris studied philosophy, politics and art history as well as theater and worked as an actress and theater director in Germany, Austria, Mexico and Switzerland from 1980 to 1994.

She lives mostly in Ecuador since 1994. Her documentaries and feature films reflect the social reality of the indigenous population in Latin America and Indonesia. They have been broadcast on ARTE and have won several awards. As a sound artist, she has taught Acoustic Art at the international radio biennials in Mexico DF and elsewhere.

In 1991 she became interested in meditation, breathing, singing and dance as spiritual techniques. She took part in the retreats of the Sufi master Pir Vilayat Inayat Kahn in the Alps. Together with her partner David Höner, she began studying tantra with “Sky Dancing Tantra” and various other teachers in 1994 and has shared a tantric lifestyle ever since. Since 1995 she has been working with indigenous peoples in Latin America and is involved in shamanistic energy work.

 

Iris has been teaching Tantra in various contexts since 1996, including at the “Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar”. Since 2000 Iris has developed the “Durga's Tiger Teachings”. She currently works as an author and teacher at the "Durga's Tiger School for Tantra, Yoga, Art & Shamanism" and is involved in the community project "Durga's Tiger Land".
